💜 OPTION 3:Travelling with NDIS Funding?

Some eligible support provided during your journey may be able to be funded through your NDIS plan, potentially reducing your personal out-of-pocket cost.

Travelling with NDIS Funding?

If you are an NDIS participant, some of the support you receive while travelling may be able to be funded through your NDIS plan, depending on your individual plan, available funding and support needs.

While the NDIS generally does not fund the cost of a holiday itself — such as your flights, accommodation, meals and sightseeing — eligible disability-related support provided by your Travel Companion during the journey may potentially be claimable.

This could include support with personal care, mobility, accessing the community, navigating airports and transport, daily living activities, or other assistance you would ordinarily require because of your disability.

At Travel with Care Australia, we can separate eligible support hours from the other costs associated with your journey, helping you clearly identify your NDIS-related support costs and your personal out-of-pocket travel expenses.

As every NDIS plan is different, funding cannot be guaranteed. We recommend checking with your Plan Manager, Support Coordinator or the NDIS before booking to confirm what your individual plan may cover.

Self-managed or plan-managed?
Let us know when you enquire. We can discuss your support requirements and provide an itemised quote to help you determine what may be claimable through your plan.

NDIS funding may help reduce the amount you personally pay for support while travelling — making supported travel more achievable.

NDIS Travel Support & Travel Companions

Travel with the Support You Need

Having a disability doesn't necessarily mean you have to give up travelling, visiting family or experiencing new places.

At Travel with Care Australia, we provide personalised travel support for NDIS participants who may require assistance to travel safely and confidently within Australia or overseas.

Depending on your individual NDIS plan, goals, available funding and disability-related support needs, some of the support you normally require may continue to be funded while you are travelling. NDIS support workers can assist with personal care, daily activities, transport and community participation where these supports are appropriate to the participant's needs and plan.

What Could Potentially Be NDIS Funded?

Your NDIS plan may be able to fund eligible disability-related support provided during your journey, where that support is included in your plan and meets the applicable NDIS requirements.

Depending on your individual circumstances, this could include support with personal care and daily activities, mobility and accessing the community, assistance with transport and navigating unfamiliar environments, or other disability-related support you ordinarily require.

Every participant's circumstances and plan are different, so we cannot guarantee that a particular support will be funded. The NDIS requires funded supports to meet its criteria and relate to the participant's disability and individual support needs.

What Doesn't the NDIS Pay For?

It's important to understand that NDIS funding isn't funding for the holiday itself.

Generally, you should expect to personally pay for ordinary travel and holiday expenses such as your airfare, holiday accommodation, meals, passports and visas, travel insurance, sightseeing and activities.

Current NDIS guidance also specifically excludes the holiday travel and accommodation expenses of support workers from Short-Term Accommodation funding.

This is why we separate your Travel with Care Australia trip costs from potentially eligible NDIS support costs wherever appropriate.

Making Your Out-of-Pocket Costs Clearer

Rather than simply giving you one large travel-companion figure, we can provide an itemised quote showing the different components of your journey.

For example:

Personal travel expenses
Flights + accommodation + meals + other travel expenses

Travel with Care Australia service/trip costs
Any costs that are not eligible NDIS supports

Potential NDIS support
Eligible disability-related support hours delivered during the journey, where applicable to your individual plan

This makes it much easier for you, your Plan Manager or Support Coordinator to understand exactly what you are paying for and which components may potentially be claimed through your NDIS plan.

Could This Reduce What I Pay Personally?

Potentially, yes.

If you already have funding for the type of disability support you require and that support can appropriately continue while you're away, part of the support provided during your journey may potentially be paid from your NDIS funding rather than entirely from your own pocket.

It does not mean the NDIS pays for your holiday.

It means that having a holiday or travelling to see family doesn't necessarily make your usual disability-related support needs disappear. The NDIS states that participants can usually continue to use their plan for NDIS supports they need while on holiday.

Domestic & International Travel

We can provide travel support for journeys within Australia and internationally.

For overseas travel, there is an additional NDIS consideration: participants can generally use their NDIS supports overseas for up to six weeks under the NDIS grace period. For longer periods, the participant needs to contact the NDIS about extending that period.

Travel with Care Australia can provide support for journeys such as visiting interstate or overseas family, attending weddings and important family events, holidays, relocating between states, airport-to-airport journeys and other meaningful travel.

Self-Managed or Plan-Managed?

When you enquire, please let us know:

Do you have NDIS funding, and is your plan self-managed or plan-managed?

We can then discuss the support you require during your journey and provide an itemised quote.

For plan-managed participants in particular, NDIS price limits apply to funded supports, so the support component needs to be structured appropriately. Current NDIS pricing arrangements for 2026–27 set maximum prices for plan-managed and NDIA-managed supports.

Not Sure Whether Your Plan Can Cover It?

That's okay.

Before booking, we recommend discussing the proposed supports with your Plan Manager, Support Coordinator or my NDIS contact to confirm whether the particular supports you require can be funded from your plan.

We are happy to provide information about the proposed support and an itemised quote that you can take to them.

Travel Shouldn't Stop Because You Need Support

Whether you want to visit family interstate, attend an important event, take a long-awaited holiday or travel overseas, needing disability support shouldn't automatically mean staying home.

Travel with Care Australia can provide the support you need to make the journey possible.
